Jordan Inn ~ Glendive, Montana

Jordan Inn – Glendive Montana

Sadly, this historic hotel was shuttered back on October 4 2013 and remains closed to this day. This is a link to an article in the local paper, the Ranger Review from October 10 2015.

Two years later, Jordan Inn still locked up | The Glendive Ranger Review

Curiously, this is the entry on the HauntedPlaces.org website/database.

“This hotel and bar was once a focal point for the mining population of the town, and is believed to be haunted by the apparitions of a woman and her child.”

I say curiously, because the area has not had any large mining operations in this part of Montana. There was one, maybe two old coal mines in the local area around Glendive, but nothing that would have supported a “mining population” in Glendive.

I found an awesome resource for history buffs from the Library of Congress. There are digitized historical papers from across the nation, in fact there are over 12,701,900 pages available to read!

Here is the link to the Yellowstone Monitor the first paper in Glendive.

I took the following stories/reports off of the the Facebook group called Glendive Hauntings .

One witness gave me multiple accounts of weird occurrences, her first job was housekeeping at the Jordan. My main floor was the 3rd floor, one day I was walking off elevator and in middle of hallway was a lady standing there she looked sad or lost. The witness asked her if she needed help, no words came from her, but she just turned around and walked down hallway. I was not far behind her as she turned corner, but when the witness got to same corner she was gone, no where to be seen or found. When she spoke with some of her co-workers they said that this mysterious lady has always been seen walking down that hall and when you get to the corner she disappears and cannot be found. She wore an old fashioned type dress, long to the floor with her hair up nice, to this day the witness hasn’t really heard or found out who she was. Shortly after seeing the apparition I moved onto another job.

A few years after that I started working at the Jordan Inn again as a waitress in the attached cafe, this is when things got weird, not at first, but it did happen. She witnessed dishes fly off shelves with no one around to touch them. Another time she was in the dry storage in the basement getting supplies and had the door slam shut on and wasn't able to get out until someone came down looking for her and found her locked in that room. She was the only one in the basement, no other employees had been down there at the time. The most chilling tale that the witness relayed was that she has heard her name being called along with being told "come find me"…

The account of being locked in the dry storage room was substantiated by another former employee, the only difference is that the second woman had the lights turn off before the door was slammed shut and locked.

Many women have reported the feeling of being watched in/near the restrooms. I've heard reports that there was an old Crematorium in the "basement" of the Jordan Inn. From what digital internet sleuthing I have done, it appears that at some point in the middle of the last century, the original Jordan Hotel and the neighboring building was both torn down and rebuilt with the structure that is in town today.

I bring this up because the first reference I found to Morticians operating in Glendive was the Lowe Brothers in the June 10 1909 issue of the Yellowstone Monitor.

Another former employee remembers one time being in the basement and seeing a woman in a red fringed dress. She was just standing in a door way staring at me. Then she turned around and disappeared…

The Jordan Inn in Glendive is one of the many Haunted Hotels/Inns/Motels in Eastern Montana. Stay tuned for more entries concerning the other (hopefully more from the Jordan) locations in the future.
